Our mission
Accelerating the energy transition through Smart Grids:
a synergy between innovation, digital technology,
and territorial development.

Smart Grids serving
the territories development
A true cornerstone of the energy transition in territories, smart grids, or Smart Grids, accelerate economic development and offer new services to citizens and communities: renewable energies, low-carbon mobility, self-consumption, energy economy & storage…
The Smart Grids Institute, a non-profit organization created in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes under the auspices of local authorities, unites the regional ecosystem in support of local, national, and international energy projects. As a global innovation hub and leader in R&D, patents, and demonstrators in the energy sector, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes brings together a wide range of high-performing and innovative stakeholders.
Through its General Delegate, Patrick Rakotondranahy, the Smart Grids Institute unites this ecosystem and works to accelerate your projects by leveraging the strength of the smart grid sector, composed of companies, academics, startups, and institutional actors from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Smart Grids combine
innovation, digital and energy technologies
Digital and technological innovations
• Integration of renewable energy sources (photovoltaics, biomass, …)
• Internet of Things (IoT), communicating systems and smart solutions (software and algorithms, energy infrastructures, Artificial Intelligence, …)
• Local energy systems : generation and load balancing
• Energy management (generation and load forecasting, flexibility, curtailments,…)
• Energy storage
• Big Data processing and management
For new energy uses and services to citizens and local authorities
• Low emission transport (low carbon vehicles and charging points, smart charging, …)
• Distributed energy generation
• Collective and local self-consumption
• Energy planning from districts to cities (data plateforms, …)
• Digital customer services (energy savings, smart buildings, …)
• Citizen engagement (citizens’ energy projects, local community workshops, …)
